Detailed Overview of the Owner; April Martinborough

Real By Nature Salon, located at 368 N. Main Street (Rear entrance) in Taylor, PA, achieved the milestone as the only Black Owned Salon in the borough with its official grand opening ceremony on April 22, 2021.

April Martinborough, better known by her stylist and brand name “Real,” serves as the Salon Owner, Senior Cosmetologist, and Cosmetology Instructor. Her primary salon focus is on the details involved with supporting and enhancing a client's pre-existing natural beauty that could be overlooked when going through the format of a traditional salon care experience.

Beginning with a thorough consultation, staff will discuss your hair, skin, and nail care history with you, inquire about your cosmetic interests and desires, and then provide the next steps to take the customer on their own unique hair care journey. Follow-up consultations will also be encouraged to ensure success.

April was born in New York City but moved to Northeast PA at age 13, making stops along the way in East Stroudsburg, Pocono Mountain, and Gouldsboro before settling in Taylor, where she has been a resident for about 17 years.

She is the beneficiary of significant beauty school education, possessing three active diplomas and state licenses. She possesses Cosmetology program diplomas and licenses in both New York and Pennsylvania. To advance her knowledge, she later went back to school and received her diploma and license as a Certified Cosmetology Instructor in Pennsylvania. She has also completed advanced training in natural hair braiding and Silk Press artistry.

April developed the salon in a boutique style by combining a modern, vibrant look with earthy natural elements to provide a warm, natural yet unique salon experience. She aims to create an inclusive environment for all members of Taylor and its surrounding neighborhoods and believes the experience in her salon will improve self-confidence, self-awareness, and, most importantly, self-love!

The salon is open by appointment only and is made by advanced booking online (no walk-ins).
